Celebrating Tu B’Shvat with our Family Tree

Introduction to Leslie’s Blog

Anticipating Tu B’Shavt, I’ve spent this week trying to create a Shabbat dinner menu that includes all Seven Species mentioned in the Torah(barley, wheat, pomegranate, figs, dates, grapes, and olives—the plants the Israelites discovered when they reached the Land of Israel after their 40 year diet of manna in the desert).  I took a break before preparing the chicken and olives and read Leslie’s blog for the week—family trees!  Perfect!

So, I encourage you on Wednesday, Feb 4th -- which is the 15th of Sh’vat on the Hebrew calendar -- to celebrate both the agricultural bounty of the Land of Israel and the branches on your own family tree.
